MR ASIL Nadir, the tycoon who faces a string of theft and false accounting charges in Britain, has denied he was a fugitive and said he would not be returning to Britain.
Mr Nadir who fled to Northern Cyprus recently transferred business operations from there to Turkey.
Four years ago he slipped out of Britain while awaiting trial for theft and false accounting charges relating to the £2.2 billion sterling collapse of his former Polly Peck International empire.
In an interview with Radio 5 Live, Mr Nadir said: "I am not a fugitive. I love Turkey and I am continuing to serve the country."
The Serious Fraud Office is actively seeking his return to Britain, but Mr Nadir ruled out a return. "I do not trust them sufficiently to have to go to Britain," he said. "I can fight them from here and I am not talking about the British people or the country."
He added: "If I have an assurance to the government of Turkey that I will not be arrested and if I could have a guarantee, government to government, I would be delighted to come back with an undertaking that there will be a public inquiry."
