The Republic needs a more coherent and strategic energy policy, IBEC said yesterday.

Stating that planned projects would come into question if investors lost confidence in the market, energy executive Ms Tanya Harrington claimed the approach to pricing and legislation in the sector was ad hoc.

Gas and power sector players wanted a clear regulatory framework with "senior commitment" by the Government for a liberalised market and fair competition.
