Shares in Tullow Oil jump 7%

Shares in Tullow Oil jumped more than 7 per cent yesterday after the exploration group said production had commenced at its Schooner-10 gas well off the UK coast and that the latest results from its Ugandan drilling programme were encouraging.

The Schooner-10 well, which Tullow bought in March 2005 as part of the £200 million (€293 million) Schooner and Ketch acquisition, began production on May 16th.

Ryanair brings case to High Court

Ryanair has brought High Court proceedings in a bid to identify people posting messages on a pilots' website.

In the action, which opened yesterday before Mr Justice Thomas Smyth, Ryanair is seeking orders against Impact official Neil Johnston; the Irish Airline Pilots' Association and its British counterpart, Balpa.

Ryanair is also seeking an order requiring the defendants to disclose information relating to threats, intimidations and harassment of Ryanair pilots that appeared on the Ryanair European Pilots' Association website.

The defendants have denied the claims. The case continues today.

Emap's Irish plans 'proceeding well'

Emap, the UK media group, says the integration of its Irish radio stations is "proceeding well" with market share growing nationally and locally.

In June 2005, Emap announced the takeover of Scottish Radio Holdings (SRH), which owned stations in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic. It said its national station Today FM had a 10.5 per cent market share and in Dublin FM 104 was the number one independent station.

Minmet in talks with three groups

Mining and exploration group Minmet said it is in talks with at least three different groups, including one that is not in the natural resource sector, regarding opportunities that it believes will add value to the group's portfolio.

Minmet, which yesterday revealed a 21 per cent decline in 2005 revenue as a result of difficulties at its Bjorkdal mine at the start of the year, said pretax profit narrowed to $2.3 million (€1.78 million) last year from $11.7 million in 2004, while revenue stood at $10.2 million.

Figures boost German outlook

The outlook for Germany's economy is brighter than expected, figures revealed yesterday suggested. The German statistics office yesterday confirmed that the German economy grew by 0.4 per cent in the first months of the year, compared with the previous quarter.

The latest figures, which are an upward revision from previous estimates, boosted hopes of recovery in the euro zone. - (Reuters)
