Fretful Sony shuffles global management

Sony's game unit said yesterday that its president, Ken Kutaragi, will become chairman from today while keeping his post as chief executive.

Sony Computer Entertainment said Kazuo Hirai, head of its US operations, will become president and chief operating officer.

Film studios look to iTunes for sales

Amid slowing growth of DVD sales, Hollywood studios Universal, 20th Century Fox, Paramount and Warner Bros have been in talks with Apple about making their films available on its iTunes platform.

But the studios are concerned about digital piracy and are putting pressure on Apple to limit the number of iPods that can be used by iTunes on a particular computer. - (Financial Times service)

Microsoft says Zune is 'on track'

Initial sales of Microsoft's Zune music player "indicate we are on track to meet our internal business projections", Zune director Jason Reindorp said.

Zune's rank among Amazon.com's top-selling MP3 players has declined to 18th from a high of seventh, according to a Piper Jaffray survey. - (LA Times service)

Nokia loses more ground to Ericsson

Nokia has lowered its profitability targets in spite of rising sales, highlighting the growing difference in its performance with that of rival Ericsson.
