Low internet profile for Irish firms
More than half of leading Irish companies do not appear in the top five results from internet searches based on simple category keyword searches, according to a survey by Captivate Digital.
The new digital media division of Starcom Mediavest Ireland says the results show Irish companies need to raise the profile of their products and services on search engines.
Captivate director John Dunne said 75 per cent of internet users rely on search engines to get around the web with 60 per cent of websites receiving more than half their traffic from search engines.
Architectural heritage archive
Software company Terminalfour is building a digital archive of Ireland architectural heritage with the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage.
The archive - www.buildingsofireland.ie - currently catalogues information on historic buildings and gardens in 16 counties.
The group expects the remaining 10 counties in the Republic to be catalogued over the next decade.
Oscars boost traffic to internet sites
The annual Oscar ceremony boosted traffic to movie-related internet sites.
More than 420,000 worldwide tapped into Oscar.com - about two-thirds of them from outside the US - on the day of the 79th Academy Awards last Sunday.
Internet movie database IMDB.com received 1.13 million visitors.
