Padraic White appointed interim chair of Northern Ireland Water
The former head of the Industrial Development Authority has been appointed interim chairman of Northern Ireland Water (NIW).
Padraic White replaces Chris Mellor, who was sacked by the Sinn Féin minister for regional development, Conor Murphy, last spring.
The appointment will run for an initial period of nine months before a permanent appointment process is considered.
Mr Murphy said: “I welcome the appointment of Padraic White who will bring his wealth of skills and experience to bear in providing a steadying influence on the board of NIW, following what has been a difficult time for the organisation.”
Board role for United Drug chief
Liam FitzGerald, chief executive of United Drug, has been appointed as a non- executive director of the US pharmaceutical group Warner Chilcott.
The Nasdaq-listed company is to locate its global headquarters in Dundalk, Co Louth, with the support of IDA Ireland, it was announced in February.
Warner Chilcott focuses on the urology, women’s healthcare, gastroenterology and dermatology segments of the US and western European pharmaceuticals markets.
United Drug is a Dublin- based health services provider with a wholesale pharmaceutical business and is listed on the Iseq index.
Mr FitzGerald is a director of a number of other companies, including drinks group C&C.
240 apartments for Mahon in Cork
A new residential development in Mahon on the south side of Cork city is expected to create 120 construction jobs over five years, writes Olivia Kelleher.
The Central Park project will be built on a 10-acre site on the southern side of the South Link Road near Mahon Point Shopping Centre. O’Callaghan Properties has been given planning permission for 240 apartments, a neighbourhood centre, shops and a medical unit. A hotel had formed part of the original planning application but it was subsequently withdrawn.
O’Callaghan Properties has developed some of the most successful retail schemes in Ireland including Liffey Valley, Mahon Point, Merchants Quay, Paul Street Shopping Centre and Golden Island.
Burkeway Construction
An article in yesterday’s paper stated that Michael Burke of Burkeway Construction owed the company €10.4 million through a director’s loan. In fact, Mr Burkeway is owed €10.4 million by his company through the director’s loan.
He is not connected with the Foster Court Hotel in Galway as stated in the article.
