Withdrawals at blink of eye thanks to CR2

Dublin-based CR2's software is being used in an innovative project in Jordan which allows customers of Cairo Amman Bank to withdraw money from an ATM simply by having their iris scanned. The cameras and software from US firm IrisGuard, which eliminates the need for cards and Pin numbers, is integrated with CR2's BankWorld software, which manages 124 ATMs.

BT wins Cusp Point Software contract

BT Ireland has won a €2.5 million, three-year contract to provide a service delivery platform for Cork-based Cusp Point Software. BT will provide 40 terrabytes of storage in five data centres to support the document management provider's service delivery.

Aerlingus.com sources test tool

Enovation Solutions has supplied an open source testing automation tool to the e-commerce division of Aer Lingus, which runs the Aerlingus.com website. Aer Lingus had a number of unsuccessful attempts to install commercial testing tools which would enable it to test new features before they go live and so was relying on manual processes.

Twitter used for pre-launch hype

Wubud, a stealth Irish start-up, is using micro-blogging platform Twitter for a novel approach to building up its pre-launch hype.

Once Wubud, which is being described as a "mobile social" application, has 5,000 followers on Twitter, founder Paul Walsh will hold a prize draw for a MacBook Air. http://twitter.com/wubud

Fineos deal with Australian insurer

Irish insurance software provider Fineos has strengthened its position in the Asia-Pacific region following a deal with BT Insurance, a subsidiary of Australian banking giant Westpac. BT Insurance will use Fineos Claims to manage its property and casualty insurance lines. Consumer credit claims for personal loan insurance and credit card repayment protection will also be managed using the Dublin firm's software.

RedMere has HD TV breakthrough

RedMere Technology, the Irish fab-less semi conductor company, has introduced what it claims is the first 3.4Gbits/sec high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) switch with embedded controller. It will enable TV manufacturers to deliver the highest HD quality of 1080p 16-bit deep color, which is used by high-end formats like Dolby TrueHD.

O2 cuts iPhone price only in UK

Despite a promotion by O2 UK to cut the price of the 8GB iPhone by £100, the Irish subsidiary of the mobile operator says it has no plans for a similar cut here. The entry-level iPhone is now £169 (€209) in the UK but remains €399 in Ireland.
