UTV directors' remuneration drops to €1.12m

UTV directors saw their remuneration drop slightly last year to £1.12 million (€1.63 million), from £1.15 million, a fall of 2.1 per cent, according to the company's annual report.

Chief executive John McGann was paid a total remuneration package of £529,105, down from £597,614 in the previous year. Mr McGann collected the highest remuneration, with a salary of £356,100, benefits worth £29,833 and a bonus payment of £143,172.

The highest paid non-executive director was John McGuckian, who was paid a total remuneration of £102,841. The annual report said bonuses paid to executive directors were "based upon achievement of challenging profit targets", which in 2005 delivered an 18 per cent increase in earnings per share.

ECB's Irish funds system disrupted

The Irish arm of the European banking system's payment processing network crashed for two hours yesterday morning, but the Central Bank said there was no risk to clients.

The Irish element of Target, the European Central Bank's electronic system for moving payments from bank to bank, went down for two and a half hours between 5.30am and 8am yesterday.

The central bank said yesterday it was brought back online without the necessity for introducing a back up system. There was no risk to clients and all payments were processed shortly after 9am.

Shannon airport talks commence

Talks aimed at overcoming the impasse on the €30 million "survival plan" for Shannon airport are to commence at the Labour Relations Commission today between the Dublin Airport Authority and unions.

The sides have been given a two-month deadline in which to resolve issues by the Labour Court.

Glencar discovers gold in Malian site

Exploration group Glencar Mining has discovered gold mineralisation to the south of its existing Komana West drilling site in southern Mali.

The company said yesterday the results of its second drilling programme showed that the strike length of the ore grade mineralisation extended to 1,100 metres. However, Glencar said that while it is clear there is a significant development of high-grade ore present, further work is required to determine its continuity and full extent.

B of I warns over fraudulent e-mails

Bank of Ireland has issued a fraud alert, warning all customers to ignore any e-mails they have received from a source purporting to be Bank of Ireland or www.365online.com.

A number of customers and non-customers have received e-mails directing them to a website posing as its personal banking service, 365online.com, where they are asked to input personal banking information.

The bank said it never requested customer information in this manner and said under no circumstances should anyone enter details.

Any customer who responded to one of these e-mails should contact the bank immediately on 1890 365 365 or from outside the Republic on 353 1 462 2365.

Ormonde upbeat on Spanish project

Ormonde Mining yesterday reported positive progress at its Salamanca Gold project in western Spain.The company said the previously reported gold anomaly has been extended in length and width.
