Motor insurance still forms the majority of complaints sent to the insurance ombudsman. According to the 1999 annual report, of the 927 written disputes referred to the office, 247 related to motor insurance and 203 were life assurance related. There were 80 disputes on medical expenses, 54 concerning general insurance and 51 relating to pensions, the report shows.
