Irish transportation-related prices are under suspicion as alleged overcharging practices in the airline and car-rental businesses are being investigated.

The Office of the Director of Consumer affairs is looking into customer accusations that airlines are overcharging since they separated landing charges or passenger service charges (PSC) from the main fare. In some cases customers say they're charged the PSC twice or are overcharged for Irish or British government tax. The investigation is ongoing.

Huge disparities in car rental prices have been referred to the Minister for Tourism, Mr McDaid following a scathing editorial in the New York-based Irish Echo. The newspaper suggests that collusion by Irish car-rental companies is leading to exorbitant prices for tourists. It has been reported that prices quoted for a basic model with insurance differ by almost £40 for a day, nearly £150 for a week and over £280 for a fortnight.
