Irish Express Cargo has begun construction on a £13 million freight logistics centre in west Dublin to meet the needs of the computer industry. The new centre - which with 200,000 square feet of space will be the country's biggest warehouse - will increase employment at Irish Express Cargo from 730 to 1,000.

The first phase of the centre will be operational by April next year and a second phase costing £3 million is planned when the first phase is completed. The company also operates out other centres in Dublin, Limerick and Cork as well as seven locations in the UK.

The new centre in the Rosemount Industrial Estate in Blanchardstown will have 20 loading bays. with the capacity to store 22,000 pallets. A 2,000 metre perimeter fence surrounding the buildings will include the most up-to-date security features.
