A PENALTY by substitute Oceano Cruz three minutes from time gave European championship finalists Portugal a 1-0 victory over Greece in last night's friendly international in Lisbon.
Midfielder Cruz scored from the spot after being brought down by Greek defender Vrizas as Portugal, who had dominated most of the game, pressed forward in search of a winning goal.
Portugal were without any foreign based players as coach Antonio Oliveira took a final opportunity to experiment before the squad leaves for Ireland in May to begin their run up to Euro `96. Greece also fielded a largely experimental side.
The Greeks could have gone ahead after 70 minutes but substitute Fratzeskos managed only a weak shot when he found himself unmarked in front of goal with only goalkeeper Vitor Baia to beat.
Dragan Stojkovic scored early in the second half to give Yugoslavia a 1-0 victory over European championship finalists Rumania in freezing rain in Belgrade yesterday.
Stojkovic, who plays for Nagoya Grampus Eight in the Japanese league, scored from a free kick in the 51st minute and that proved enough to win the match. Rumania had better of the first half but could not beat goalkeeper Kocic, the only man in the Yugoslav starting line up who plays fur a Yugoslav club.
