Eircom has informed staff that Cathal Magee, the telecoms company’s managing director of retail, is to leave the company.

Mr Magee was acting chief executive of the company last year before the appointment of former Vodafone Ireland boss Paul Donovan. He joined Eircom in 1995 as group HR director and headed up its retail arm since 2002. Mr Donovan will assume interim responsibility of the retail division.

Singapore Technologies Telemedia completed its takeover of Eircom last month in partnership with its Employee Share Ownership Trust (Esot).
