Career: After gaining a civil engineering degree in UCC and working in Britain, he joined Christiani and Nielsen, in the Republic. Employed by CRH in 1971, he held senior management positions including chief operating officer of US operations, and managing director, Republic of Ireland and UK companies. He joined the CRH board in 1992 and was appointed chief executive, Oldcastle Inc in 1994.
