POPULAR DUBLIN pub the Market Bar and a restaurant in the Cafe Bar Deli chain have both been fined for failing to hold a current liquor licence.

Mercroft Taverns, the company behind the Market Bar on Fade Street, lists Electric Picnic promoter John Reynolds, restauranteur and hotelier Jay Bourke, and his business partner Eoin Foyle as its directors.

Another restaurant controlled by Mr Bourke, Cafe Bar Deli on South Great Georges Street – which he said recently has been closed for renovations – has also been fined for failing to have a valid drinks licence.

The two companies are included in a list of companies and individuals fined for tax breaches between April and June this year, which was published by the Revenue Commissioners yesterday.

Fifteen companies were fined for failure to lodge corporation tax returns. These include the Debt Management Bureau in Castleblaney, Co Monaghan and Nooked, a software company registered at the Business Innovation Centre at the Institute of Technology, Sligo, which has previously supplied technology to Ryanair.

Most of the list relates to individuals who failed to file income tax returns. It is dominated by individuals working in the construction, hospitality and agriculture sectors, but three of those fined – Derek Droughton, Ballymote, Co Sligo; Patrick McDonnel, Aylmer Park, Naas, Co. Kildare; and Joseph O’Brien, Dunkerrin, Birr, Co Offaly – describe their occupation as providing accounting and book-keeping services.
