THE Belfast distribution group FAMAC has been acquired by its management team in a £2.2 million sterling deal backed by venture capital group 3i and Bank of Ireland. FAMAC was established in 1976 to deliver furniture in Northern Ireland for mail order company Great Universal Stores. Since then, the company has expanded into the Republic and employs 250 people with a fleet of 200 vehicles. FAMAC has five distribution centres in Ireland, a transshipping depot in Wigan in Lancashire and provides delivery services for major retailers such as Habitat, Reids and Laura Ashley.
