‘An Klondike’ among Celtic Media Festival nominees

TG4 drama An Klondike, its car-based dating show Pioc do Ride, and the RTÉ/ Motive Television series The Notorious, starring UFC fighter Conor McGregor, are among 42 nominations for Irish broadcasters and production companies at the Celtic Media Festival's Torc awards.

The Glasnevin Cemetery documentary One Million Dubliners, directed by Aoife Kelleher and made for RTÉ by Underground Films, will compete in the same category as Cumann na mBan –- Mná na Réabhlóide, made for TG4 by Genefile.

Abú Media's An Klondike, a story of three Irish brothers who travel to the Yukon in Canada during the 1890s gold rush, is up against Poldark, the BBC drama filmed in Cornwall and starring Irish actor Aidan Turner in the title role.

The Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas specials from 2014 were among the Scottish nominees. The comedy, starring Brendan O'Carroll, is produced by the BBC in Glasgow.

The awards are open to broadcasters and production companies from the Celtic nations and regions of Brittany, Cornwall, Galicia, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Scotland and Wales.

More than 500 submissions were received and there are more than 90 nominees.

The 2016 event is set to be held in Dungarvan, Co Waterford, in April.
