The gaming sector offers some of the most lucrative pay packages to marketers, a new Irish salary survey shows. The study of about 1,250 people working across all sectors found that marketers employed by gaming companies were most likely to have received a salary increase in the past year.
A marketing director for a gaming firm can expect to earn as much as €190,000 at the upper end, the survey by the Alternatives Group and the Marketing Institute of Ireland found. This puts the sector on a par with financial services when it comes to remuneration for senior marketers.
A gaming company marketing manager, meanwhile, can earn €160,000, while senior brand managers and digital managers at those firms may also take home six-figure sums.
The industry is on a mission to find customer relationship management specialists, and research and insight experts, among others.
“The main gaming firms are looking to understand their users at a deeper level in order to upsell additional products,” reports Alternatives, a marketing recruitment agency.
“Retention and player-lifecycle management are more and more important as the market matures and new users are harder to come by.”
Ireland is home to some of the big players the gaming industry, including Riot Games, Rational Services, BetFair, Paddy Power, DemonWare, EA Sports and Blizzard Entertainment.
However, many of the companies keep their brand and corporate communications roles at their lairs in the UK or the US.
