Storyful has begun 2014 as it ended 2013 – on a highly positive note.
The social news agency has a new partner in the shape of Disney-owned ABC News, to which it will provide user-generated video content, newsroom technology and verification services.
The agreement covers both ABC-branded broadcast news and Disney's new cable network Fusion, which is aimed at the US Hispanic audience, while Storyful's services will also be used
by digital properties such as ABCNews.com and Goodmorningamerica.com on the newly media-centric Yahoo! portal.
The partnership is an extension of Storyful’s work with ABC News during last year’s typhoon in the Philippines.
As the disaster unfolded, the Dublin-based company sourced dramatic video from the region, allowing the network to fully cover the story despite limited resources on the ground.
News Corp deal
The partnership comes just weeks after the company, founded by former RTÉ journalist Mark Little, was bought by News Corp for €18 million.
“2014 is going to be a huge year for news organisations who can harness the power of video on the social and mobile web,” according to Little.
Unless, of course, it’s a slow news year.
