DIGITAL TV and broadband company UPC continued to grow strongly in the second quarter of this year, new figures published show.

The company added 22,600 subscribers in the second quarter to the end of June, bringing its total number to 945,200 – an increase of 14 per cent on last year.

Its results published yesterday show the firm experienced a 25 per cent year-on-year increase in broadband subscriptions, with the total number rising by 56,900 to 283,400. The company is the second biggest broadband provider in Ireland, behind Eircom.

Year-on-year growth in phone subscriptions increased by 69 per cent to 205,800, according to the company which is owned by Liberty Global.

UPC Ireland offers digital TV, broadband and fixed-line telephone services to customers.

The company has invested €500 million over the past six years in its next generation broadband network, according to chief executive Dana Strong. The company has 333,200 digital TV customers in Ireland.

In May, the company launched On Demand TV, its new digital entertainment hub.
