German shares closed electronic trading on the IBIS Dax index almost unchanged as the market took the opportunity to consolidate after last week's record highs. Car manufacturer BMW was under pressure earlier in the day after a report in Spiegel magazine said 1995 profits at the company had fallen. Shares in BMW came back over the day and closed down 60 pfennigs at DM827.50.
Paris CAC-40: 2015.31 (-1.88)
The Paris Bourse suffered a slight setback as the CAC 40 index finished the day at 2,015.31 points, off 0.09 per cent by comparison with the Friday evening close. Trading volume was 3.5 billion francs. Traders noted that government owned Caisse des Depots et Consignations is now forecasting that French GDP will rise by 0.4 per cent in the current first quarter from the previous quarter and by 0.2 per cent in the second.
