DAX: 4253.67 (+30.24) Germany's DAX index ended bourse dealings yesterday with modest gains. Dealers said the DAX, which has risen almost 300 points from the lows of last Monday, has run out of steam for the time being and is stuck within a tight range.

The market earlier showed little reaction to the Bundesbank keeping interest rates steady, resuming its old policy of announcing securities repurchase agreements each week.

CAC-40: 2957.23 (-22.04) French shares closed lower after having gained nearly 4 per cent on the two previous days. The fall was mainly due to profit taking and was exacerbated by early losses on Wall Street.
