WALL Street was up slightly in an unusual day of trading marked by end of quarter selloffs.
The Dow Jones industrial average of blue chip stocks was up 3.98 points, or .07 percent, to 5,630.86. Only 370 million shares traded hands.
Losers outnumbered gainers, however. There were 1,019 stocks gaining ground while 1,240 fell and 818 were unchanged.
On the bond market, interest rates on 30 year Treasury bills went up due to sell offs prompted by renewed fears of inflation. The rate was up to 6.72 per cent compared to 6.68 on Wednesday.
Aviation stocks were down, with McDonnell Douglas down 3/4 at 94 and Boeing down 1/8 at 88 3/8.
Apple Computer, which trades on the Nasdaq exchange, was down 1 1/8 at 24 1/4 on news of larger than expected losses.
