House loans and mortgage approvals jumped by a quarter to £1.9 billion over the last year according to the Housing Statistics Bulletin for the three months to June 2000.

Released by the Department of Environment and Local Government yesterday, the figures also show there was a £300 million increase in loan approvals between the first and second quarter of 2000.
