Bank of Ireland and Green Property are likely to benefit most from the revamping of the Morgan Stanley Capital Index, according to brokers Davy. Both shares come into the index for the first time. Davy, who is broker to both, has calculated that interest in Bank of Ireland as a result of its inclusion would be equivalent to about 9 days' market turnover in their shares or about €265 million or 2.72 per cent of market capitalisation.
For Green the figures are about 14 days' turnover, €19 million or 2.5 per cent of market cap. Other shares whose index presence will increase include AIB, CRH, Elan, Greencore and IL&P. Shares that may suffer include Jurys Doyle, which is exiting the index, and Ryanair, Kerry, Smurfit, Waterford Wedgwood, Independent News and Media and Iona, whose presence is set to fall.
