Background
Prior to taking up his new post, he was managing director of Power Generation since 1993, where he was credited with greatly improving the efficiency of the generating plants.
He joined the ESB in 1961 and began his career as an engineer in Cork and Galway. In 1979 he was appointed district manager for Cork. In 1987 he was appointed director, customer operations.

Born in Dublin, he holds an Honours BE in Electrical Engineering and an Honours Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering.
