Career: Over 20 years' experience in high technology and digital media. He has held senior level positions with Global 1000 companies, including vice-president of software at Xerox and chief technology officer and executive vice president with NEC Packard Bell. Mr Burger has also founded and managed several successful digital media companies in both the US and the UK. He has also authored numerous papers on imaging technology, and is author of books on digital photography and colour science.
Status: Married to Wendy. Two children.
Interests: Playing the blues and ragtime guitar, squash.
Why he is in the news: He has just been appointed as chief executive of Media Lab Europe, an offshoot of the US-based technology research centre, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. MLE will be located in Europe.
