Nervousness hits shares

The DAX share index had its first close below 4,300 since July 22nd, reflecting nervousness in the market after last week's all-time high. Traders watched cautiously for Bonn's unemployment figures which are due tomorrow. In June, seasonally-adjusted joblessness rose by 11,000.

French shares fell below 3,000 in late trade after Wall Street stocks dropped amid interest rates concerns. The dollar's surge in strength against the franc and the deutschmark raised speculation that the Bundesbank may raise its rates today to defend its currency.
