The appointment of Dr Paul Gorecki as a member of the Competition Authority has been announced by the Tanaiste, Ms Harney. Dr Gorecki is director of the Northern Ireland Economic Council, which provides advice to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.

Dr Gorecki previously worked for the Economic Council of Canada and has also administered competition law and written extensively on competition policy. He will take up his appointment in June. Dr John Fingleton was recently appointed chairman of the Competition Authority.
