NORTHERN Electric yesterday formally conceded defeat in its £782 million takeover battle with US based CE Electric. The Newcastle based regional electricity company advised shareholders to accept CE's takeover terms and said it would not be in their interests to remain as minority investors.

Northern said its own directors had now accepted the bid.
