US ONLINE payment group CyberSource is to invest a further £2.8 million in its Northern Ireland operations.

The group, which first set up a development centre in Belfast two years ago, employs 31 but it hopes to grow this to 60 within the next year.

The latest investment boost will support CyberSource’s research and development facility in Northern Ireland. The Nasdaq listed group said its Belfast team will design and develop cutting-edge technologies based on Java software. CyberSource provides electronic payment and risk management services to more than 284,000 businesses.

Michael Walsh, chief executive and president of the group, which is headquartered in Mountain View, California, has praised the quality of its workforce in Northern Ireland, saying it had “exceeded our expectations”. CyberSource’s decision to reinvest in the North has been welcomed by Minister for Enterprise Arlene Foster.
