Checkout Magazine, the Republic's leading retail magazine, has found that only 5 per cent of people know that €10 is worth £7.88. A survey of 100 members of the public on Grafton Street and Henry Street in Dublin on November 15th found that just 15 per cent of those questioned knew when the pound stopped being legal tender.
However, more than half were aware that December 31st was the cut-off point for writing cheques in pounds.
