Are you a saver or a spender? I tend to be impulsive and, if I see something I can afford, I would buy it straightaway. However, I think it's important to have a habit of saving as you don't know what's around the corner.

Do you shop around for better value? I do, but the service I receive is just as important, so if I come across a salesperson that is attentive and makes the buying experience an enjoyable one, I would pay a bit more.

What has been your most extravagant purchase and how much did it cost? My Rolex watch. It cost about €5,000. I have a passion for watches and the craftsmanship that goes into creating mechanical timepieces.

What purchase have you made that you consider the best value for money? My bicycle. I paid about €1,000 for the bike and accessories, and it hasn't let me down. It is the best way to get around the city.

How do you prefer to shop – online or local? Always locally. I might research online but as a retailer I know the benefits of buying from a store. I appreciate that it can be convenient to buy online, but there is also the hassle of making sure that you're around at a particular time to receive it and, if it's wrong, you still have the hassle sending it back.

Do you haggle over prices? I may do if I think it's appropriate; however, I appreciate that the person selling also has to make a living so I won't push it to the wire. If I feel that I got value for money and the other party is also happy, then it's a win- win for all concerned.

Has the recession changed your spending habits? I thought that it would, but looking back it didn't, really. I didn't get caught up in that moment and I only spent what I could afford to pay back. I suppose I stress-tested myself more than the banks back then.

Do you invest in shares? A limited amount, but it is something I will be coming back to when I have more time to study the market.

Cash or card? I like to use both, but I probably use my card more. It's so convenient and it is accepted in most places. If I lost my wallet and had €500 cash in it, I would probably never see the cash again. I think I have a better chance of limiting financial damages with a card.

What was the last thing you bought and was it good value for money? A family ticket to Dublin Zoo recently. It was money well spent, as it was a great day out and kept us all happy for hours.

Have you ever successfully saved up for a relatively big purchase? I used to be a good saver, especially when I was younger. I loved motorcycles and was extremely disciplined until I saved enough money to buy one. Of course, I don't have it now for various reasons!

Have you ever lost money? Yes, lots of times. I don't fret too much about it, as I hope that the finder needs it more than I do.

Are you a gambler and if so have you ever had a big win? I'm not a gambler as I learnt my lesson when friends took me to Cheltenham races when I was 20 – I lost a full week's wages.

Is money important to you? Yes, it's important. We live in a culture where it is a basic need.

How much money do you have on you now? €57.20
