Poor diagnosis for US health website

Health website drkoop.com has been in the wars

Health website drkoop.com has been in the wars. One of the most widely-recognised US health sites, it has this week received a transfusion - $20 million (€17.9 million) in equity financing, a new management team and a reconfigured board.

Still analysts are not convinced. The Margin was pleased to see, however, that despite all the doom and gloom in the technology sector, one market-watcher has managed to retain a sense of humour. "In theory, it's the financing that they need, but they had a $40 million loss and their revenue situation isn't going to change," said Rachel Terrace, an analyst with Jupiter Communications. "I can't imagine anyone in their right mind would want to invest in this company."

"This (financing) is a Band-Aid for now," Ms Terrace said. "I would not be surprised to see them file for bankruptcy."
