The final Ansbacher report should be published immediately, the Labour Party TD Pat Rabbitte said yesterday. Responding to the disclosure that two "powerful" individuals are believed to be preparing attempts to block publication of their names in the report, he said voters should be made aware of the findings of the High Court inquiry before the general election.
He said: "There is already growing doubt among sections of the public about the capacity of various inquiries to establish and publish the facts within a reasonable timescale. Further delay will simply increase that scepticism."
An action is believed be imminent although it is thought that moves may have already begun.
To preserve their anonymity, it is thought that the figures involved will seek to have any case heard in camera, a condition that would require High Court approval.
Mr Rabbitte said: "I am well aware of the legal minefield in which those undertaking these investigations must operate, but it is now surely time that this report was put into the public domain."
Stating that the full findings of a separate report by an authorised officer appointed by the Tánaiste Ms Harney had not yet been published, he said the public was no wiser and it was not unreasonable that the findings should be available.
