The Frankfurt stock market, notched up a firm gain, remaining on a rising trend that had set in on Monday. Traders said the strong gain was due to Wall Street's strength and to the firmness of the Frankfurt bond market, on which the average yield on government issues fell by 0.03 of a point to 5.2 per cent. Traders said the bond market was benefiting from the good German control of inflation.

Paris CAC-40: 2624.25 (+44.97)

The Paris bourse surged in quiet trade while waiting for the monetary committee meeting. The CAC-40 index was up by 0.66 per cent at the opening and by 1.74 per cent at the close. Share volume was a modest 6.1 billion francs on the monthly settlement market. The Matif financial futures market was also higher.

Shares ended higher, tracking the rise on Wall Street and other European markets, while the market was also boosted by buying of telecommunications stocks.
