Mobile operator Vodafone has settled with the Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) over a number of cases relating to unsolicited marketing.
As part of the settlement, Vodafone will pay a total donation of €40,000 to a number of registered charities in Ireland, in addition to "goodwill gestures" to customers who complained.
The company will also implement new internal controls that will extend to third-party sales agents to ensure customer preferences regarding such marketing are "accurately recorded without delay".
Vodafone agents will also be prohibited from using account management calls to those customers for marketing.
In a statement, the DPC said the company had co-operated fully and it was prepared to close the cases.
