Ross to appeal fraud conviction

Convicted fraudster George Finbarr Ross is appealing his conviction and jail sentence of 2 1/2 years

Convicted fraudster George Finbarr Ross is appealing his conviction and jail sentence of 2 1/2 years. The former head of International Investments Ltd, which failed owing depositors £7 million sterling (€11.6 million), also plans to apply for bail pending the appeal. Cork-born Ross (54) was jailed a week ago after a jury convicted him of unlawfully procuring investments. His solicitor, Mr Leo Morrison, said he would have been due for release last Tuesday had the authorities taken account of his time in custody in the US fighting extradition.
