EOIN FOYLE’S Odessa club and restaurant in Dublin’s Dame Court appears to have had a profitable time in the year to the end of September 2011.
Latest abridged accounts for Odessa Club and Restaurant Ltd show that its accumulated losses reduced to €17,916 in the year to the end of September 2011 from €108,781 in the previous period.
A going concern note to the accounts states that while there’s an excess of liabilities over assets, the directors “believe the current banking facilities are adequate for the company’s needs”.
* INSURER CHARTIS used the Merrion Hotel on Wednesday night for the official launch of its new Cyber Edge product, which is designed to help Irish companies manage data leaks – something of a hot topic at the moment.
Chartis claims to be the first company in Ireland to bring to market a policy with a panel of specialist consultants to assist the insured in dealing with a data breach.
It appears to be proving popular, with law firms Mason Hayes Curran and Arthur Cox, accountants Grant Thornton, and advisory group Teneo Strategy already signing up.
* THE GLUT of voluntary redundancies in the banking sector is providing an unintended spin off for a number of pubs and restaurants who are hosting a virtual conveyor belt of going-away sessions.
In particular, The Horse Show House in Ballsbridge has been busy with retirement and leaving parties for the hundreds of Allied Irish Bank staff leaving its Bankcentre head office next door.
I’m told most Thursday and Friday nights between now and the end of the year involve some form of a going-away session for AIB staff there.
Every cloud has a silver lining, as they say.
