FIFTEEN AUSTRALIAN employers are coming to Dublin this weekend with the promise of up to 1,000 jobs across a range of sectors for skilled Irish workers.
The event at the Aviva Stadium will feature efforts to fill positions in companies as diverse as the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia to engineering, construction and management group Hatch.
More than 20,000 Irish people have gone to Australia on working-holiday visas in each of the last two years. This event, however, offers an opportunity for longer-term visitors through skilled migration visas which are confined to workers with a list of skills in demand which are posted on the Australian department of immigration website.
“There is huge demand for human resources in Australia, especially in Queensland and Western Australia,” said Keith Seed, international trade services manager at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Western Australia.
“At only 4 per cent unemployment in the country, we have to look further afield to fill many highly skilled positions.”
He said as many as 10,000 skilled workers were required in the “immediate future”.
Organiser Eamon O’Brien noted that there was particular demand at the event for people with engineering and construction-related skills.
People looking to apply for any of these jobs and be interviewed at the event, which runs on Saturday and Sunday, need to register at a website run by the organisers – ausemploymentexpo.com – in advance.
