Computer Gym, the mobile computer classroom, will mark its first year in operation at the Siemens stand at the Education Show in the RDS in Dublin next week. The mobile teaching facility features a computer workshop and software library based on Siemens multimedia computers and now has five trucks on the road.
According to Mr Gary Leyden, who devised the concept, the service can reach remote schools
throughout the State. One of the drawbacks, however, has been the continuing cost of the service, which runs to about £60 per child for a weekly school visit over a 12-week period.
Mr Leyden says the recent decision by Esat Telecom to sponsor one of the trucks has generated a lot of business interest and he is now hopeful more businesses will choose to sponsor the service in their local areas.
The Education Show at the RDS takes place between Thursday, March 25th and Saturday, March 27th.
