The e-learning company Skillspro made a number of its staff redundant yesterday and stopped taking calls at its Dublin office.
The firm, whose chairman is Mr Fran Rooney, the former chief executive of Baltimore Technologies and the Football Association of Ireland (FAI), is undergoing a financial restructuring.
Mr Rooney's brother, Mr Derek Rooney, president and chief executive of Skillspro, told The Irish Times last night there were some redundancies at the company and it was currently moving offices. However, he refused to comment any further on the company's ongoing financial health or the total number of jobs lost.
Skillspro was founded in 2000 to provide training courses to help individuals and people working for firms to boost their information technology skills.
Skillspro's corporate website shows that it has overseas offices in South Africa and the USA.
Its range of e-learning courseware includes the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL), which can be purchased directly from the firm's website.
Skillspro has signed deals with a range of corporate customers including Diageo, HSBC and the Essex police force in Britain.
In 2003, the company's sister firm Addoceo Digital Media Limited - which now trades as Skillspro - won a contract to supply the British public sector with software under its Central Government National Training Organisation Framework Agreement.
Mr Fran Rooney could not be contacted for comment.
