SLIGO regional technical college has installed an advanced new telecoms system capable of high speed transmission of data.

The asynchronous transfer mode (ATM)-based network establishes a more manageable computer system and can transmit data at speeds of gigabits per second considerably faster than conventional networks.

Siemens Nixdorf Information Systems worked with the college on the project which provided the RTC with an opportunity to conduct its own research in ATM and associated technologies.
