The IBIS DAX index ended the day up 12.23 points at 3,438.09 points, having briefly dropped to a low of 3,416.11 points after a far stronger than expected first quarter US GDP report reawakened concern about imminent rate rises.

The Paris Bourse started with a 1.47 per cent gain, but a rise in first quarter US GDP pulled shares back to trade nearly flat in the afternoon.
