Indian ultimatum to Research In Motion
Research In Motion’s encrypted BlackBerry email and instant messaging services will be shut down if the Canadian maker does not address Indian national security concerns by August 31st, the government said yesterday.
The ultimatum was issued hours after senior officials from government, intelligence and state-run telecom operators met to discuss how to gain access to the content, the latest global headache for RIM. The Indian government said in a statement that if its demands were not met, phone operators would be required by law to close the rock-solid encrypted BlackBerry Enterprise email and Messenger services running through their networks. - (Reuters)
Diploma in Digital Marketing
The Irish Times Training, the Irish Internet Association and Prosperity have teamed up to launch a Diploma in Digital Marketing which will be accredited by FETAC. Lecturers on the course will include Colm Grealy (Adforce.ie), Krishna De (BizGrowthNews.ie), and Gareth Dunlop (Ion Online Marketing) which will cover topics such as online advertising, mobile web, website analytics, social media, online PR. The course begins in September.
Bitbuzz registers 25% user increase
Wi-Fi network operator Bitbuzz said its registered users stood at 271,272 by the end of June, an increase of 25 per cent since the start of the year, and 56 per cent over the last 12 months.
Bitbuzz now has 223 hotspots around the country up from 204 at the end of 2009.
The operator says each site registers an average of 21 logins per business day, with the busiest time of day being from 6pm to 7pm.
Shane Deasy, managing director of Bitbuzz said he was confident that the upward trend would continue, particularly due to “the increased popularity of smartphones and netbooks”.
During the first half of the year the company won contracts with the Carlton Hotel Group, Druids Glen Resort Hotel, and the Costa Coffee chain in Northern Ireland.
