100 new jobs at high-tech firms

There was good news on the jobs front today as a Cork-based technology firm announced its expansion and five high-growth companies said they planned to create jobs in Ireland.

Semiconductor firm M/A-Com Technology Solutions said it would create 30 jobs as it continues to expand its operations in Cork, while Limerick, Dundalk and Dublin are to get a combined total of 77 jobs with the location of Culture Translate, Diaceutics, Nimble Apps, iMosphere and Unique Digital in Ireland.

M/A-Com Tech, which supplies analogue semiconductor products, is recruiting for engineering, supply chain, and quality and administration roles.

It currently employs 68 people at its facility, where it established its international headquarters in Cork last year. In 2010, the company began an IDA-supported research and development project in integrated circuit (IC) design.

M/A-Com Tech’s vice president of engineering Mike Murphy said the recent establishment of the monolithic microwave integrated circuit design centre in Cork had proved to be “a strategically significant research and development project for M/A-Com Tech Cork”, and had led to the firm’s ongoing commitment to Ireland.

Minister of State at the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Sean Sherlock welcomed the expansion, commenting on the rapid pace of growth at the Cork facility.

“IC design companies like M/A- Com Tech are of significant importance to Ireland’s foreign direct investment portfolio,” he said.

IDA Ireland chief executive Barry O’Leary said the establishment of the research centre was in keeping with the body’s focus on attracting increased investment to Ireland in R&D.

Meanwhile, Culture Translate is creating 30 jobs as is establishes its games localisation and testing centre in Dublin. Also coming to the capital is Nimble Apps Limited, the publisher of online sales analysis and forecasting solution SalesClic. It plans to create 10 jobs over the next three years, basing its European headquarters in the Digital Hub. Digital cinema software company Unique Digital is also expanding its European headquarters in Dublin.

International business consulting and software application firm Diaceutics will add 20 new jobs over three years, basing itself at the incubation centre Dundalk Institute of Technology. Limerick is in line for 17 new jobs in the next three years as healthcare data analytics and cloud company iMosphere establishes its international headquarters there.

The news comes only days after tech giant Apple announced it would add about 500 new jobs to its Cork operations over the next couple of years as it expanded its Hollyhill facility.
