Irish games developer Digit Game Studios aims to create 25 new jobs in Dublin, after securing $2

Irish games developer Digit Game Studios aims to create 25 new jobs in Dublin, after securing $2.5 million in funding from investors.

Founded in early 2012 by a team of games industry veterans, Digit is developing its first game, Kings of the Realm, due out later this year. Kings of the Realm is a cross-platform multiplayer strategy game for iOS, Android, Windows and web browsers.

“We believe ‘seamlessly cross platform’ games will be a transformational development in the games industry and the Digit management team has the experience and drive to be a global leader in this segment,” said Maurice Roche, general partner at Delta Partners which invested $2.1 million in the company, with the remainder of the funding coming from ACT Venture Capital.

“This latest funding round will help accelerate Digit in its goal of disrupting the games industry with a new cross-platform technology and awesome games,” Richard Barnwell, chief executive officer at Digit, said. The current investment brings the total amount of venture capital raised by Digit to $3.75 million.

Espion jobs

Separately, information security firm Espion is to create 15 new positions after experiencing 40 per cent growth last year. The new positions will span sales, technical, research and business support areas.

“As the volume of data increases so too do the risks to organisations. The number of high profile cyber-attacks and data leakages coupled with more compliance mandates for regulated industries has made information security a more pressing concern for organisations,” Espion managing director, Colman Morrissey said.

Last year, Espion technology distribution signed a partnership with Motorola Solutions to distribute its wireless network products in Ireland and the UK. It is estimated this deal will generate €1 million of sales in 2013.

The Dublin-based company grew its team from 32 to 51 in 2012, opening offices in Brussels to support its Europe-wide success as a provider of eDiscovery and digital forensics to international law firms.

Espion also elevated its UK presence by adding an additional office to support its increasing UK client portfolio.
