The Twittersphere was abuzz with excitement when live streaming mobile video app Meerkat was officially debuted at the SXSW Interactive Festival in the US in late March. Meerkat is an iPhone app that links with Twitter to share your live streaming event with followers, who can join, watch and comment. Until last week, this app was unique. Twitter has caught up fast by releasing a competitor named Periscope. Initially Periscope had the advantage: there were more features such as recommended followers and suggested streams.
