Eircom Q2 revenues fall 6%

Eircom reported a fall in revenues and earnings in the last three months of 2012.

Operating costs dropped 7 per cent after group?s cost cutting measures.

Eircom reported a fall in revenues and earnings in the last three months of 2012.

The telecoms group saw a 6 per cent loss in revenues, to €361 million, and an 8 per cent drop in earnings, to €119 million in its second quarter.

However Eircom continued to focus on its cost savings programme and operating costs fell 7 per cent to €157 million, compared to the same period in 2011.

Eircom Group chief executive officer Herb Hribar said “The business continues to perform in line with expectations as we make progress to stem our customer losses, revenue decline and profitability erosion.

“Operating costs have reduced in the first half of the financial year and we have made solid progress to reach our two year goal to reduce staff levels by 2,000…and we remain fully committed to our cost reduction targets.”

Retail customer figures also edged up 1 per cent to 2,050,000 at the end of last year and it added 2,000 retail broadband customers, the first increase in seven quarters.
