EA has embraced the iOS platform for its games over the years, and Fifa is no exception. The football sim has seen some improvements recently, and the iOS version has definitely benefitted. Fifa 14 not only looks great, but it also plays well too. Even total beginners can pick it up easily, with swipe controls to shoot, tapping a player to pass and dragging to move. Some players mourn the loss of the on-screen controls; for the most part, though, I found the swipe controls easier to use, although there were a couple of moments when the gestures weren't easily recognised.

Ultimate team is heavily featured, allowing you to build up your squad with better-skilled and more valuable players as you start to win more games. It’s satisfying to watch your team claw their way up the rankings.

One negative point is the in-app purchases. Although Fifa 14 is free to download, you have to pay to unlock certain modes. That was inevitable, but the choice of modes – manager mode is a premium purchase – is a little frustrating.
